Monterey High School, founded in 1904, is a culturally rich and ethnically diverse high school serving grades nine through twelve from the communities of Monterey, Del Rey Oaks, some unincorporated areas of Carmel, and parts of Seaside.
The school is supported by an incredible, dedicated staff, who are determined to ensure that every student receives the very best and most rigorous education possible in a safe and well-kept environment. Monterey High provides students with an extensive choice of extra and co-curricular activities, including a competitive, comprehensive athletic program, top-notch performing and fine arts programs, and a growing graphic arts program, as well.
Monterey High School is on the rise technologically, featuring classrooms that are well equipped with a variety of innovative technologies such as Smart Boards, LCD projectors, Document Cameras, Grade Scanners, Personal Response Clickers, laptop and desktop computers, and newly purchased notebooks for Algebra I classes.
In addition to the school’s 6 laptop carts, Monterey High Career Technical Education program has 2 dedicated computer labs, supported by a school-wide wireless Internet system, recently expanded and updated. Students engage in in-depth research and online educational services, which helps prepare them for their future continued education and careers.
The curriculum offered to our students is comprehensive and competitive. Monterey High School supports a wide choice of Advanced Placement, College Preparatory, Career Technical, Performing, Visual, and Graphic Arts courses. Additionally, students can choose from three academies, several career pathways, and multiple leadership opportunities. Students may attend one of several after-school programs that include tutoring and high-stakes assessment preparation, as well as a wide variety of clubs and organizations.
Monterey High School is a 2013 California Distinguished School, honored for its Freshman Academy and 21st Century Skills Seminar as well as its Open Access Advanced Placement program. We are honored to serve the Monterey Community and welcome students and families to Monterey High School, Home of the Toreadores.
