LIBRARY TO PARENTS
Monday, November 23, 2015
Dear MHS Families:
We are grateful to have a strong partnership with the Monterey Public Library on Pacific Street. The library offers exceptional programs and resources for our students, and we appreciate their role in our MHS community.
Unfortunately, we have recently received several reports of our students abusing this relationship and causing unnecessary and preventable problems at the library after school. Poor behavior by any group of MHS students reflects poorly on our school and jeopardizes the relationship our school has with our community and our library.
As the library is a public space, it is critical our MHS students follow the rules and regulations of the library, as well as represent our school and district. If your child regularly uses the library as an afterschool resource or consistently waits for pickup there, we urge you to have a conversation with your child regarding appropriate behavior. The library provides a wonderful space for students to use for their studies and is a place to show respect for others who want to use the library’s services.
The library will continue to enforce their consequences, including suspensions from the library and loss of privileges there. Effectively immediately, MHS administration will also assign consequences for violations at the local library. Consequences will be appropriate and progressive.
We want to ensure our partnership with the local library remains strong and continues to benefit all of our students, as well as the general public for whom the library exists to serve. If your student regularly goes to the Monterey Public Library, please speak with her/him about expected behavior and the consequences for failure to meet expectations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and your cooperation to ensure our public spaces remain safe spots for everyone to share and enjoy.
